The artist Christina Elias and Rede More Portugal invite to the process opening of the new performance BLINDFOLDED SOCIETY that will take place next Friday, 23 August, at 6:30 pm at Fórum Dança in Lisbon. After the presentation of this work in progress, there will be a talk with the artist. Christina Elias was one of the artists selected in the #Strictlyworkinprogress open call held in early 2024 by Rede More Portugal.
Forum Dança: Travessa do Calado, 26b, 1170-070 Lisbon
Free entry
BLINDFOLDED SOCIETY is a multidisciplinary performance that, through the languages of
dance/movement and spoken and written text, shares a critical view of contemporary society, highlighting the social and moral blindness imposed by unlimited capitalism. Freely inspired by the novel “Blindness” by José Saramago, the metaphor of blindness represents the dehumanization and commodification of individuals, communities, the environment, and life itself today. Incorporating a blind society, Christina Elias, blindfolded throughout the presentation, will create a live narrative composed of movement and text in Portuguese, German, English and Italian. Fragments of Saramago’s novel will create a dynamic soundscape to which the artist will respond with movement and words composed in a flow of (un)consciousness, artistic research that she has been developing since 2011.
Christina Elias (São Paulo, 1978) is a multidisciplinary artist who works at the intersection of dance,
visual arts and literature. Central to her creative process is the notion of the body as a tunnel through which diverse languages converge and flow. With a Master’s degree in Movement Studies from the Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London), she has performed in various museums and galleries in Brazil and Europe and has developed her own process of movement-text composition in an integrated, live process. .

Contemporary Dance: Somatic approach
SOMA is a movement/dance training designed to deepen body-mind connection through somatic practices such as Laban-Bartenieff Fundamentals and BodyMind Centring. Through mindful movement, we invite dancers, performers, actors, artists and movement practitioners/ sympathizers of all levels to explore internal physical awareness, enhance their perception of space and environment, improve energy efficiency and fluidity and to release habitual tension.
Our sessions also draw inspiration from Butoh, mainly its emphasis on exploring the inconscious and the primal aspects of the human experience as well as on its meditative and imaginative process of movement creation.
Besides engaging in a variety of techniques that promote flexibility, strength, concentration, creative and improvisational skills, we look forward to encouraging the exploration of deeper layers of physical and emotional expression.
