Across our weekend in Athens, our team visited the theatre each night to gain a technical understanding of the dimensions and topography,

by observing the Dora Stratou Dance Group during their summer-series performances.

A lifelong dream of our school’s founder, Alkis Manasis, has been to perform on this stage…
On this day, Sunday 23rd June, 2024 on a 42-degree day, the realisation of that dream came one step closer, when for the first time in our

dance school’s history, we aligned ourselves ‘on stage’ (on “THAT” stage), to undertake a formal rehearsal.

We extend our appreciation to staff and management of the theatre, and particularly to Thanasis Kalantzis for the initial introduction to staff members, and to theatre executives Ms. Aggeliki Christofilopoulou and Ms. Adamantia Aggeli for granting permission to our team.

Perched on the Philopapou Hill, the open-air outdoor auditorium was founded by its namesake, and hosts folkloric dance groups from both within Greece and internationally. Historically, it is acknowledged that Greek dance as an art-form and as ‘entertainment’ and ‘exhibition’ was first presented here…. the first formal example of ‘viomata’ (lifestyle experience) transcending out of its indigenous setting (village), and onto a stage for the masses.

An awe-inspiring spectacle of dances, live music (including guest musician, the world-renowned Βαγγέλης Δημούδης ), and costumes from various

regions of Greece, with tasteful choreography and a skilled-calibre and highly entertaining troupe.

We extend our appreciation to staff and management of the theatre, and particularly to Thanasis Kalantzis for the initial introduction to staff members, and to theatre executives Ms. Aggeliki Christofilopoulou and Ms. Adamantia Aggeli for their guidance and efforts in welcoming and accommodating our visit.

Our second evening visit, was yet again an awe-inspiring spectacle of dances, live music (including guest musicians, the world-renowned Βαγγέλης Δημούδης and Petros Halkias – grandson of the legendary Petroloukas Halkias ), and costumes from various regions of Greece, with tasteful choreography and a skilled-calibre and highly entertaining troupe.

We extend our appreciation to staff and management of the theatre, and particularly to Thanasis Kalantzis for the initial introduction to staff members, and to theatre executives Ms. Aggeliki Christofilopoulou and Ms. Adamantia Aggeli for their guidance and efforts in welcoming and accommodating our visit.
